Bio June 12th, 2010
David Orace Kelly is an arts advocate, teaching middle school drama in the mornings at Explorer West Middle School and consulting with local arts organizations in the afternoons. He has worked with Balagan Theatre, Washington Ensemble Theatre, Intiman Theatre, Photographic Center Northwest, Youth Theatre Northwest, and many others. As part of the Theatre Values Project (2010), he has presented at The Washington State Arts Alliance Cultural Congress and Seattle University on the Ethics of Art.
At the age of 10 he started his first arts business built on his first love, juggling. For eleven years following, he ran his own entertainment company juggling in the northwest United States. During this time, he presented workshops on street performance, and advanced juggling skills in multiple years at the international Juggling Association Conventions, the Portland International Juggling Convention, and the Seattle Juggling Convention. He was also the featured juggler in Leonard Bernstein’s Mass under the direction of Marin Alsop, opened for the Kingsmen, and was a featured performer at multiple International Juggling Conventions.
His undergraduate experience started at Cornish College of the Arts in the theatre department, made a stop at Dell’Arte School of Physical Theatre for master classes in clown and mask, and finished at Naropa University, in Boulder Colorado, with a BFA in Performance (acting, dance, and voice). For three years following his undergraduate work he directed, designed, and choreographed at Rocky Mountain Theatre For Kids, a year round youth theatre training program in Colorado.
He is in the 2010 graduating class at Seattle University in the MFA Arts Leadership Program.
